2025 Engineering Benchmarks: What’s New in Jellyfish’s Annual Benchmarking Update

Engineering Benchmarks

Jellyfish provides in-depth engineering benchmarks so you know where your R&D organization stands compared to its peers on metrics like issue cycle time, deployment frequency, PR reviews and more. We work hard to keep these benchmarks up to date so they remain as informative and relevant as possible. Similarly we’re always making improvements to our benchmarking algorithm to provide the most accurate comparisons.

Today, we’re excited to share our updated engineering benchmarks for 2025.

Engineering Benchmark Updates for 2025

Engineering Benchmark Updates for 2025

Here’s a look at what’s new:

  • Annual refresh of external benchmarks: The dataset used to externally benchmark your teams and organization is updated annually to account for the performance of all Jellyfish tracked organizations over the past year. This also includes increasing our dataset size by adding new organizations from the past year, further enriching the dataset. Our 2025 Benchmarks are based on data from 78,000 engineers and 11,000 teams.
  • Updated external benchmarking logic: External benchmarks are now computed at the team-level in addition to the company-level. This change makes Jellyfish’s benchmarks more granular and therefore more accurate.

Here’s What Else You Need to Know

Here’s What Else You Need to Know

Changes to our benchmarks went into effect on Tuesday, January 28th. Your percentiles will change as the datasets your organization and teams are benchmarked against also change. It’s difficult to predict on a company and team basis whether these changes will be nominal or significant so the changes you see in your dashboard will be on a case by case basis.

It’s important to note that these changes will not impact the benchmarks you use internally. Similarly, actual metric values are not impacted. Instead, it is purely the dataset those values are benchmarked against that have changed.
