AI Coding Reading List

Last week we launched our new weekly AI Coding Digest to help you (and us) keep track of new developments (no pun intended) in the world of AI more broadly and AI coding specifically. This week we’re tracking new funding rounds, exploring AI-native development, imagining a world of benevolent AI, and more.

Keep scrolling for the latest and come back next week as there’s sure to be even more news!

Here’s what we’re reading this week:

If Anthropic Succeeds, a Nation of Benevolent AI Geniuses Could Be Born
By Steven Levy

Reacting to this article, our Head of Research, Nicholas Arcolano writes: “I’ve been using OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini interchangeably for coding, and I see why folks like Claude so much. The ergonomics on the web interface are nice – for instance they were the first to version the code as you go on a separate canvas. Their moral stance on AI appeals to a lot of folks as well.”

MCP: The new “USB-C for AI” that’s bringing fierce rivals together
By Benj Edwards

Back in November, Anthropic developed a standard for how AI agents connect to data sources (e.g. the context they need to do stuff). And this week, OpenAI made big news when they announced they’d support the move. The word on the street according to our Head of Research is: “Everyone’s hope is that this will become the standard. If you’ve been waiting to try out MCP in your infrastructure, now is the time to start.”

The 4 patterns of AI Native Dev – Overview
By Patrick Debois

Jellyfish Advisor Adam Ferrari shares: “We’ve seen plenty of attempts to classify different modes of AI assisted development based on how you work – categories like chat coding, vibe coding, etc. But this model looks at the ways that “what” we work on will change. We’ve seen this model widely referenced, but the thought-provoking original is worth checking out.”

Meet Augment Agent: Your AI pair programmer that deeply understands your codebase, and learns as you work
By Guy Gur-Ari

Ferrari adds: “The drumbeat of interesting new tools for AI-assisted development shows no sign of slowing. This week Augment Agent is all the buzz. It looks especially interesting for teams with a mature codebase already under management. Not to mention it seems to push the idea of agents that can handle more of the development process forward. We’ll be staying tuned into any reports about early real world experiences with Augment Agent.”
